Boom Boom Shahid Afridi

When Shahid Afridi gave splendid performances in the World Twenty20 Cup in June and helped his team win the coveted trophy, I was asked by LibertyBooks, the debutant publishers, to do a mini coffee table book on the flamboyant cricketer.

We could have done a quickie to meet the great demand but opted for coming out with a publication, which could have a long shelf life. Despite his heavy schedule, Afridi gave an in-depth interview.

I also got views on the cricketer by two legends, Zaheer Abbas and Wasim Akram. His father piece on his son’s childhood made interesting reading too. Renowned cricket writers and commentators Cherian Thomas, Chishty Mujahid, Saad Shafqat and Kishore Bhimani wrote informative pieces.

His statistics were also included. Good quality pictures of Afridi, on and off the field, were bought by the publisher, who also got a relatively unknown but well equipped printing house to do a great job.

This was how Boom Boom Shahid Afridi was born and is now selling as fast as Afridi in full flow.
